Retail for a Cause

The idea of having a resale shop with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society began in California over 40 years ago.  Today there are more than 60 Discovery Shops nationwide. The Cincinnati Discovery Shop, one of eight across Ohio, opened in the summer of 2000 in Deer Park with a staff of 55 volunteers. The Shop initially sold only men and women’s clothing and accessories. A few years later the shop expanded it’s space so that furniture and household items could be added to the merchandise offered.

In 2008, the process was begun to find a new location that would offer greater foot traffic and parking. In March 2009, the shop relocated to it’s current location in Cherry Grove Plaza on Beechmont Avenue in Anderson Township.  Today, the shop is experiencing increased growth in it’s new location thanks to the talents and commitment of over 75 volunteers. The Discovery Shop provides not only a great shopping experience but also a sympathetic ear and a great place to find information about the fight against cancer.
